    VISIT-(en route)- YAPAHUWA

    Known for being the capital of Sri Lanka for a  brief moment in the 13th century, the Yapahuwa Rock is one of the most popular tourist attractions. King Bhuvenakabahu I (1273 – 1284) is said to have built the rock and the created the capital city which lies on the outskirts of Kurunagala. However, beyond the 13th century there are no historical references to the rock, but it still remains a fascinating sight today.

  • Day 3 : HABARANA

    Built in the 5th century by King Kashyapa, the Sigiriya Rock fortress is a stunning attraction in Sri Lanka to see. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage site that rises starkly from the rock face. It is a spectacular citadel that is surrounded by a dramatic setting of more than 70 hectares. The fortified town that it protects are beautifully cared for and as this is the country’s most significant and popular attraction it is a must-see place during your trip. The extensive gardens, rampart and moat simply add the sheer drama that beholds this small town, and there are the frescoes of the Heavenly Maidens in the spiral stairway of the sheltered rock face to see also. Compared to other UNESCO sites this one lets you get up close and personal with the beauty it exudes making your holiday to Sri Lanka unforgettable.


    Sri Lanka is packed with ancient sites and historical places that are teeming with intrigue and steeped with information. The Polonnaruwa UNESCO World Heritage Site is part of the Cultural Triangle and marks early civilisation shown by the high watermarks dating back to the 12th century. Polonnaruwa offers well-preserved remains that are extensive and gives you a snapshot into history of medieval Sri Lanka. It takes around three hours to traverse the site and you’re bound to be astounded by the fine monuments and magnificence of the Buddha statues. These statues are a stunning example of the craftsmanship of ancient Sri Lanka as they were carved from the rock face.

    Departure towards Kandy


    There are many cave temples in Sri Lanka but none are more impressive and spectacular than King Walagambahu (1st century BC)’s Dambulla Rock. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage site that spans more than 2,000 square metres, and five caves. There are painted ceilings and walls, which are some of the largest in the world, and there are more than 150 images of Buddha. The larges Buddha figure is carved from granite and is an astonishing 14 metres high!



    En-route, you can stop at Matale’s Spice Garden. There are Sri Lankan cookery demonstrations as well as Ayurvedic massages, too. There is also a traditional Sri Lankan lunch that will help you immerse yourself into Sri Lankan culture and traditions.

    Departure towards Nuwara Eliya

    City Tour of Nuwara Eliya

    Located 2,000m above sea level the ‘city of dawn, has the tallest peak called Piduruthalagala at a height of 2,555m and Nuwara Eliya itself  is the highest, inhabited city on the island of Sri Lanka. Established in the 19th century by the British, the city is often referred to as Little England and is a very popular place for tourists to venture to thanks to the cooler climate. There are many bungalows and hedgerows that give it a quaint colonial feel, and as Nuwara Eliya is at the heart of the world famous Ceylon Tea plantations, there are factory tours and plantation walks to go on too.

    As Sri Lanka’s most popular wildlife reserve, the Yala National Park is packed with fascinating animals and creatures, and has a distinctive charm that never fails to impress. Stretching over 1,260 square meters, the park has a beautiful and colourful setting that gives it a true feel of nature. From painted storks to elephants, crocodiles, sloths and leopards you’re never far from incredible animals. There are thousands of varieties of birds and jackals too that make the national park so very popular. A must-see place for those visiting Sri Lanka.

  • Day 7 : YALA

    Harbouring 197 species of birds, the Bundala National Park is a very important wintering ground in Sri Lanka for migratory birds. The main highlight that people want to see in Bundala National Park is the Greater Flamingo. The park was designated a sanctuary in 1969, a national park in 1993 and is now the 4th biosphere reserve in the country, which has been designated by UNESCO. It’s located 245kms from the capital city, Colombo.

    Departure towards Colombo

    Enjoy a city tour of Colombo; the former administrative capital of Sri Lanka, and the country’s largest city. It is an eclectic mix of the bygone colonial era as well as having a stark modern contrast. The main reason Colombo is what it is today is thanks to the large harbour and situation facing India and being in a stop-off point for East-West trade. The British Empire in 1815 made Colombo the capital of Sri Lanka and as such it’s home to the main entertainment, restaurants and corporate offices that you’d expect from a large city. The tour of Colombo lets you delve into the past and present of the city, looking at the commercial sites, religious areas and historical monuments. You will get to see Pettah and the bustling Fort as well as the Galle face Green, Cinnamon Gardens and the sublime Viharamahadevi Park.
