Overlooking the Indian Ocean and the stunning Galle port, the Lighthouse Resort and Spa is a fine place to stay during your holidays to Sri Lanka. With a strong Dutch colonial influence, the Jetwing is an inspired take on 18th century decoration and architecture. Being just 4 hours’ drive from Colombo International Airport and being on the west coast of the country, you feel just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the cities, and at one with nature and the great expanse of water that is in front of you.
The hotel was created by Geoffrey Bawa, a very popular architect in Sri Lanka, and is a sublime place to visit. There is an array of rooms and suites to stay in as well as scrumptious meals at the restaurant to enjoy, as well as many traditional aspects to take part in during your Sri Lanka holidays.
In the Lighthouse Resort and Spa, there are 60 Deluxe rooms that overlook the Indian Ocean or the beautiful garden. With ice-cold air conditioning and a ceiling fan you’re always kept comfortable, and thanks to the mini bar, coffee making facilities as well as the safe, spacious bathroom and balcony or terrace, you’ll feel supremely happy in your room. There is a bathtub and shower as well as an LED TV and IDD telephone. If you really want to splash out during your Sri Lanka holidays, why not try one of the three themed suites?
The Deluxe rooms have a king-size bed or twin beds and a sofa. The hardwood Teak furniture is very special and makes the room whole.
The themed suites are fantastic; one takes you back to ancient China and has soft lanterns, lamps and delicate vases as well as traditional Chinese prints. It’s exquisite, refined and very pretty. The next suite takes you to Morocco, whereby you have heavy décor, bright colours and a vibrancy that is only usually found in Morocco itself.
The last suite is a take on the Dutch colonial times and has a distinctive look and feel about it. The character and colours really make this one the pick of the bunch during your holidays to Sri Lanka.
There are two bars and two restaurants at the Jetwing Lighthouse Spa. The first is the Cardamom Café which has both in and outdoor dining. There are vegan dishes as well as buffet, a la carte, light meals and refreshments, not to mention kids’ meals. The Cinnamon Room is next which has a stunning array of seafood specialities as well as a terrace view of the Indian Ocean. This is for dinner or evening meal only.
The Anchor Bar and Grill is the pool-side bar/café. It has a relaxed atmosphere, being based next to the pool, and has healthy meals, burgers, sandwiches, grills and kids’ menus. There are smoothies, mocktails and cocktails on the drinks menu too. The Coats of Arms Bar is ideal for refreshing drinks and light snacks.
